Former M.E.G. Underseer passes away at the physical age of 94

In the early hours of yesterday morning, it was officially reported that Somalia Hanks, one of the original members of the former M.E.G., had died. She passed away in her sleep some time in Level 11's "midnight" hours after a long, almost decade long battle with Alzheimer's which had plagued them not long after her retirement in 2026.

Somalia Hanks, originally born in Massachusetts in January of 1943, made a name for herself in the early days of the M.E.G. by helping establish their database, done by using the ruins of an old database which was later learned to be the OS of the defunct organisation known as "The Leaders". Although known as cold, stern, and oftentimes cruel in the initial two years of the M.E.G.'s growth, she gradually mellowed as she found community and family in the form of her husband and two adoptive children. Despite already being old when she was found by the M.E.G., she insisted on performing a mix of managerial database duties as well as on-site field research, which saw herself eventually becoming an Underseer. Her most well-known finds, and some of her last, include the discovery of PA98 and Level 206, and she is also the individual who has conducted the interviews on the page for the Middlesorts.

The shockwave of her sudden, yet expected passing has been felt across 11's Capital, as well as the wider reach of the M.E.O.D. Network. As one of the last surviving original figureheads from the M.E.O.D.'s original three conglomerates, it feels as though the Backrooms as a whole has entered a new era. The work of Somalia Hanks will not go forgotten, and her legacy lives on in her children and widowing husband. Molly Hanks and her partner, David Carry, are currently arranging details of her funeral and honouring her written will, seemingly in the absence of Somalia Hanks' husband Jason.

Somalia's family has refused to answer questions, even the more distant family of Molly Hanks' partner. Even though this behaviour is understandable, it also leaves little up to interpretation on how the family is coping, nor does it allow us at the Blogrooms to give insight.
