Good afternoon sir. We've been raided again by that group of strange individuals wearing Comedy and Tradegy masks. However, this time we successed: we captured one of them and under some pressure he told us about some strange urban-type Level with the purple mist. I will attach the interrogation log to the letter. There was no information about something like this in our databases. Regiment "Compass Point" has already started searching for this mythical place.
I'll report you as soon as we find something.

M.E.G. Investigator: So far so good. Tell me more. What does your "Coalition" do?
Suspect: Well… We are trying to find an exit from this place. And we need resources for that.
M.E.G. Investigator: That's why you decided to raid the ones, who can't protect themselves?

M.E.G. Investigator: Why do you wear these masks all the time? Are you ashamed of your actions and you are covering your face because of that?

M.E.G. Investigator: Listen, I know these aren't ordinary masks. If you tell me how you can wear them so easily I promise we won't cut your fingers anymore.
Suspect: I-I can't. Arteze will kill me for that…
M.E.G. Investigator: Arteze? You mean the leader of the CBS? He won't know anything.
Suspect: No, you don't understand. He… He hears us. I-I… I can feel it.
M.E.G. Investigator: Okay listen. This starts to be annoying. Tell me where you are hiding or there will be consequences!

INCIDENT CL-147.1-2018 REPORT

Alexei Smaev died on May 24th 2018. Autopsy report showed death from cardiac arrest. The body had multiple lacerations and bruises. Right hand was missing two fingers and left hand was broken. M.E.G. representatives declared that the suspect was in this condition before interrogation. No further comments provided.

INCIDENT CL-147.2-2018 REPORT

13th of April 2018 a message was uploaded to the Major Explorer Group servers. The sender remains unknown, however most likely it was so called "Coalition of Backrooms Survivors". The message contained a documentation of a previously unidentified level along with a video of a brutal execution of M.E.G. agents who were sent to that Level for its subsequent documentation. Presumably, the Coalition voluntarily provided the necessary documentation to avoid espionage by the Major Explorer Group.
Because of the previous confrontations with the members of this group, the documentation needed additional verification. As a result, the veracity of the documentation was confirmed. This documentation should not be construed as a "gesture of goodwill" from the CBS, which remains designated as a terrorist organisation.

Level 147 resembles an urban type level, featuring all sorts of buildings, from small white stone houses to massive modern skyscrapers. By it's overall view it reminds a typical american megalopolis from 20th century. Despite general gloominess of the buildings and their apparent detachment from the observer, wanderer can entry any of them to establish a shelter. Inside every building has bare concrete walls¹ and sometimes two chairs next to each other. It's worth noting that one of these two chairs will invariably be strewn with broken glass, razor blades or nails. On the other side, second chair will always be soft and elastic. Nothing stops a wanderer from taking these chairs outside if needed. The total size of the city is unknown. 256 km² have already been discovered and cartographed, and no one has seen the border of it yet.

A notable feature of the Level is its Purple Mist. The appearance of this mist is still unknown. On its own, the mist is much heavier than air, which makes it settle on the streets of the Level. This reduces the visibility, limiting it to 100 meters. The Purple Mist has one crucial feature, which makes it unsafe for a wanderer to stay in it. After a set period of time, from two hours to three days, a person can abruptly plunge into a state similar to suspended animation. During that period it is highly recommended not to wake them up because it may lead to certain unpleasant mental conditions such as increased irritability, depressive episodes, and in rare cases even suicidal thoughts.
During the suspended animation state, a wanderer presumably experiences emotional situations, that happened to them in the past: first love, final exams, birthday, childhood trauma, marriage, loss of loved ones, etc. Despite the strong emotional weight of these events in a person's life, upon leaving the suspended animation state, a person seems to completely lose emotional bond with these events. There is a theory, the mist has the ability to absorb people's emotions during suspended animation.² Based on recent research, a typical gas mask with B type filters is able to filter the air from the haze, which makes traveling through the level completely safe. In addition, Wall Masks seem to have similar effect. This phenomenon still has to be investigated since they lack any filtering modules.

Investigators who reached this Level found themselves in a bus, which travels through the city streets in a spiral, similar to a cylindrical helix. The path’s spiral-like nature can be only detected while observing the sun position. From time to time, the bus stops and opens its doors. Normally, this happens near structures resembling the frame of a bus stop. Passengers, Trouble-makers, and rarely the Bus Conductor may get on a bus during these stops. Wanderers may leave the bus but after that it will continue it's route. Usually after that an unprepared person can die by dehydration or hunger, sometimes, freezing to death or even dying while being in suspended animation state.³It is not recommended to leave the bus alone without any reason because of it's ability to protect from the outside mist. The Purple Mist isn't capable of getting inside the bus which makes staying in it relatively safe if you meet one specific condition.⁴
Despite the fact that bus 34 remains the only way to travel on the Level, the wanderers can still find some other vehicles. That includes buses, minibuses, cars, and others. Some can be dangerous or lethal, such as electric buses, with metal surfaces under a constant voltage of 380 V. These are easy to detect by their lack of a combustion engine’s noise and a large inscription on the windows that reads: “This is an electric bus. Like an electric car, but actually a bus". These buses are not dangerous without direct contact.

Passengers

Passengers are considered non-hostile entities, while Trouble-makers and the Bus conductor are hostile.
Passengers should be treated neutrally; they do not react to the people they see or meet. Passengers have a humanoid form, but without a face. Instead, they have smooth, black skin. Investigators have reported they look like they are "wearing tights on their heads". Passengers are usually dressed in various business suits, sometimes wearing a hat. This is the only entity you can meet outside the bus. While exploring the Level, you can meet Passengers sitting on a bus station completely still. They won't react to anything, even stabbing or shooting them won't have any effect. This makes it easier to steal a Ticket from them. However, this carries grave consequences for the Passengers themselves because in that case they won't be able to give the Ticket to the Bus conductor.

Trouble-makers

Trouble-makers can be dangerous in specific rare conditions, but more often they harm the bus itself. They have already destroyed one seat and scratched a part of the window. They resemble Passengers but with big eyes (most commonly red) and a mouth with sharp teeth. Another difference is that you'll never see any of the Trouble-makers outside the bus. Apparently they just appear in front of the bus sometimes. Don't let them get on the bus. If Trouble-makers get annoying enough, they will attract the Bus conductor.

The Bus conductor

The Bus conductor appears as a tall man in a leather coat. He is by far the most dangerous thing for all stowaways. Most of the time, his victims are travelers who accidentally wandered into the bus and Trouble-makers. In some cases, Passengers may be a target too, if it happens that they don't have a ticket. If you are a stowaway, there’s nothing you can do but wait for death. The Bus Conductor does not react to weapons or any other damage on the bus. It is not known whether or not he can somehow be damaged. The Bus conductor can warp the space of the bus to trap anyone, who might try to escape. After that, he kills the stowaway. Sometimes he will grab the victim’s belongings and kick him out from the bus. Even in this situation, if the victim is alone, without any equipment they'll probably die. You need a Ticket to avoid being attacked, and possibly killed, by the Bus conductor.

The Ticket is a flexible rectangular card measuring 8.5 cm by 5.4 cm. It is made of a material that resembles plastic but has better thermal conductivity. You can find it on the ground near the bus stops or steal it from the Passengers. Sometimes, it is covered in mud, so spotting it can be difficult. Tickets are quite rare and highly prized when traded.
If you show it to the Bus conductor when he comes up to you, he will take your ticket, but after that, you will be able to ride for as long as you like — he will not attack you anymore until you get off and back on the bus.

Bases, Outposts and Communities

CBS (Coalition of Backrooms Survivors) Base Astra

• It is located in one of the skyscrapers of Level 147, which was fully equipped with the forces of CBS.
• Base A is the main research center for the method of setting up Level Keys to open new levels.
• Base A has 1039 members.

The Renegades Outpost

• The location is classified. It is a temporary shelter for a group of M.E.G. defectors.
• The chief of the outpost is considered to be Yung: Ex deadzones researcher.
• The outpost presumably has 3 to 10 members.

Entrances And Exits:

Entrances:

• If you find bus 34 at Level 11 and get on it, you will most likely end up in Level 147 with everyone else in the bus.
• After a long walk on streets at Level 9, sooner or later, you will start to feel the effects of Level 147 or simply notice a strange environment around. This is the most unsafe way to get there.

Exits:

• While riding the bus, there is a chance to get to a skyscraper made of glass panels. Entering it, and going through the maze of corridors inside, will lead you to Level 4 or Level 0.
