Classification Manufactured object

Creator Backrooms Robotics
Locations All interior levels, some exterior levels

"Robovacs" (also referred to as Object 83) are objects manufactured by Backrooms RoboticsBackrooms RoboticsBackrooms Robotics is a technology manufacturing company which produces a variety of products, ranging from consumer products to weapons.- which can be found throughout the Backrooms. They are autonomous devices that attempt to clean up any waste or grime that they encounter. While Robovacs are usually passive and will typically attempt to flee if attacked, they are capable of defending themselves.

Behaviour

Typically Robovacs passively roam around interior levels, searching for grime or debris to clean up. If a piece of debris or rubbish is too large for a Robovac to engulf in one go, it will employ a set of metal teeth to break up the object into pieces which it can engulf. It will also typically broadcast a signal to draw more Robovacs to its location. Robovacs won't typically attempt to harvest a piece of debris greater than a meter in size, although if a group of Robovacs has already gathered, they may attempt to collectively do so.

Analysis published by the M.E.G.Major Explorer GroupThe Major Explorer Group is currently the largest and most influential group in the Backrooms. Founded in 2012 as an alliance of Level 1 groups, it quickly grew to become the largest group in the Backrooms.- shows that individual Robovacs are capable of communicating with each other across the Backrooms, as well as with what are believed to be systems in Backrooms Robotics. Backrooms Robotics has remained secretive about the workings of Robovacs.

If attacked and unable to escape from the attack, a Robovac will attempt to protect itself. It will typically attempt to deal the minimum amount of harm necessary in order to allow itself to escape. Robovacs usually attempt to defend themselves by ramming the attacker or by launching the contents of their debris container at them, although they have also been recorded using their metal teeth to defend themselves.

This section needs expansion. You can help by adding missing information.

A variety of Robovac designs have been observed and recorded by wanderers, although all share some common external characteristics. All Robovacs are between 7 and 10 centimetres tall, all have the Backrooms Robotics logo printed somewhere on their casing, and all are roughly circular in shape. Accounts from wanderers who have managed to dismantle a Robovac show that despite the differing external appearances, all Robovacs have an almost identical interior structure.

The debris container within all Robovacs is of considerable interest to wanderers due to its properties. While on the outside it is small and light enough to fit within the limited space inside a Robovac, it has an internal capacity of around 1400 cubic meters. No matter how much weight is put inside the debris container pocket dimension, its outside weight will remain constant. While it is possible to use a Robovac debris container for storage in its original state, its utility is limited due to it being designed for use within a Robovac. Some artisans within the Backrooms are capable of transforming a Robovac debris container into a Worn Sack, a far more useful object for storage.

History

It is unclear when Backrooms Robotics began manufacturing Robovacs. Accounts describing wanderers encountering objects similar in appearance to Robovacs date back to the early days of the DroughtThe DroughtThe Drought is a term used by Backrooms historians to describe the fifteen year period between the fall of the Leaders in 1997 and the rise of the M.E.G. in 2012.-, although whether these objects were Robovacs is questionable, as many robots built by the LeadersThe LeadersThe Leaders were a technologically advanced group active in the Backrooms between 1970 and 1997.- remained active after their collapse. The first confirmed encounter with a Robovac was documented by a member of the Nomadic CoalitionThe Nomadic CoalitionThe Nomadic Coalition was an alliance of nomadic explorers that formed in 2001. They were one of the three groups that would combine to form the M.E.G. in 2012. - in 2009, who described encountering a small robotic vacuum cleaner with the words "Backrooms Robotics" written on it.

Shortly after their formation, the M.E.G. catalogued Robovacs on their databaseM.E.G. Public ArchiveThe M.E.G. Public Archive is a database maintained by the M.E.G. Record Keeping Institute, containing documentation sourced from their records. -. In 2012, Backrooms Robotics officially established diplomatic relations with the recently-formed M.E.G. and made an official statement confirming that they were responsible for creating the Robovacs. They stated that the Robovacs had been the result of a collaboration with the Backrooms Remodelling CompanyBackrooms Remodelling Company The Backrooms Remodelling Company is an entity-controlled group which attempts to "remodel" or "improve" areas or entire levels of the Backrooms.-, created with the intent of "helping to clean up the Backrooms". A Backrooms Remodelling Company spokesentity denied collaborating with Backrooms Robotics, although they also stated that it could be possible that they collaborated and later forgot about it.

In the aftermath of the 2014 Lamp espionage scandalLamp espionage scandalThe Lamp espionage scandal was a major controversy involving Backrooms Robotics caused by the discovery of hidden cameras concealed within Lamps.-, many groups considered banning Robovacs from their settlements. The U.E.C. and a handful of other groups implemented full bans, but most groups instead chose to continue tolerating Robovacs due to the convenience of having robots clean up for them. Security measures and restrictions were put in place, such as M.E.G. Base Alpha banning Robovacs from all sectors besides the civilian sectors. After the restrictions came into force, Backrooms Robotics released a statement stating that it regretted the loss of trust and would update the firmware of Robovacs to help them avoid restricted areas. Despite the supposed firmware updates, Robovacs have still been periodically sighted attempting to enter restricted areas.

Do's and Dont's

Do

  • Remain calm if you see a Robovac. They are harmless unless attacked, and they are quiet enough that their presence does not post a significant risk of attracting entities.

Don't

  • Attempt to attack a Robovac. While their debris storage container is valuable, the risk of injury associated with obtaining it isn't worth it.
