Level 241 is the 242nd Level of the Backrooms. It is a seemingly endless area of dog-related rooms, specifically an adoption center, pet cemetery, and pound.

Description:

Level 241 is composed of three separate regions within the singular Level, described below. The Level as a whole has the scent of dog breath and fur. Pawprints composed of mud can also be found randomly throughout the Level.

Adoption Center:

The adoption center is the larger and brighter section of Level 241. This area features many different viewing areas for dogs and cats, many of which are found here.

Despite there being no Outposts, Communities, or otherwise human presence on this Level, the animals are friendly and well-cared for. Their food and water bowls are refilled as necessary via unknown means, and their pens are cleaned as they as dirtied. Additionally, the animals present in the Adoption Center do not appear to age.

Within some of the rooms are reception desks or other office stationary. Computers are working, however do not have any files of use. Pictures of different dogs and cats can be found as the backgrounds on each computer. The files indicate the names of all the animals that are present in the Adoption Center and Pound, as well as their adoption status, which are updated autonomously.

Any wanderer of the Backrooms may adopt an animal by opening the door to their chosen pen while intending to take said animal with them. No more than one adoption per wanderer while their adopted pet of choice still lives is possible. Once removed from Level 241, the animals formerly within regain mortality. This does not, however, appear to apply to puppies/kittens, who have been observed to mature into adulthood before ceasing aging. All companions present on the Adoption Center are spayed/neutered, save for those too young to have the procedure carried out on them.

An adoption board visible in the foyer area of the Level will automatically update itself upon the completion of a new adoption, and will include a Polaroid of the new happy family with their names written in blue permanent marker at the bottom, typically accompanied by a heart or smiling face if space permits.

I guess someone must have gotten to you by now. It's inevitable, given how precious you are, but I still hold out hope.

Cemetery:

Picture of a grave within the Cemetery area of Level 241.

The Cemetery is accessible via a door on the right of the Adoption Center. It is an outdoor area, which is always a pleasantly warm temperature without inclement weather conditions. There are scattered tombstones, mausoleums, graves, and memorials around the area, all of which are dedicated to passed pets. The area is permeated by a peaceful silence, interrupted only by the wind blowing through the trees, birdsong, and the occasional bark or yip audible from within the Adoption Center.

Though one may walk infinitely outwards in the Cemetery, there is no known exit to the Level by performing this action. Fortunately, should one desire to return to the Adoption Center, turning around and walking will nearly instantly bring you to the building once more. The Cemetery is unmappable due to its constantly changing geography, landmarks, and graves/memorials shifting at seemingly random intervals.

Not here. I made damn sure.

Thank goodness.

Pound:

The Pound is a more hostile, darker area of Level 241, accessible via a door on the left-hand side of the Adoption Center labeled "Staff Only." It is full of cages containing mostly feral animals such as wolves, tigers, and bears. There is, occasionally, a feral dog or cat within the cage which is overtly hostile to humans. The sound of growling, roaring, and hissing is audible throughout the Pound. It should be noted that the cages on this part of the Level are all locked and inaccessible.

Like the animals of the Adoption Center, those found within the cages of the Pound area are well-cared for, and their bowls of food and water are consistently replenished as they are depleted. Notably, animals with diets that do not consist of industrially available feed are still fed and maintained with appropriate diets. It is unknown where or how these materials are sourced from.

Similar to the Cemetery, the Pound seems to stretch on infinitely. The further back one goes, the more extinct animals appear. Some spotted species include:

  • T. Rex
  • Anomalocaris
  • Deinonychus
  • Mammuthus primigenius
  • Ornimegalonyx

Again, similarly to the Cemetery, anyone who has entered the Pound will be able to exit it by simply turning and desiring to leave, no matter how far they have walked in the Level. Once more, just as with the Cemetery, the Pound appears to be entirely unmappable due to constant additions being made by whatever force keeps Level 241 together.

Though there is no way of confirming this, it is believed that Level 241 is where most animals who have no-clipped find themselves in the Backrooms.

Bases, Outposts and Communities

There are no known Communities or Outposts on this level. Any humans within the Level who stay beyond 12 hours are harmlessly teleported out, typically to whatever Level they were on prior to entering Level 241.

Entrances And Exits:

Entrances

One can enter this level by following Panda out of Level 726 after having her breakfast, by longing for companionship, or by wishing to mourn a companion lost.

Exits

Level 241 can be exited either by exiting through the door designated "Exit" in the Adoption Center foyer area. Doing so will usually deposit you in Level 726 or the M.E.G. Outpost in Level 1. As previously mentioned, anyone staying longer than 12 hours in Level 241 will be autonomously ejected and harmlessly placed in a safe location within whatever Level they were in prior to accessing the Level. If no such location exists, they will be teleported to the M.E.G. Outpost in Level 1.

It was a bust. But I know you're out there. We'll meet again.

Though we may be parted by what feels like entire worlds, every planet in the universe shares a sky. So look up, my dear, and I will find you.
