Tea time with Blanche was an event Tom seldom missed. It didn't matter what was going on in his personal activities—if Blanche decided like experimenting with a new brew, it was only proper for her to have good company.

Keeping things proper is the first line in a butler's job description, is it not?

"…AND THEN, just when I thought it couldn't get any DUMBER, this guy JUGGLES ME OFF THE STAGE BORDER for like TEN SECONDS!" Tom throws his hands up in exasperation, groaning as he recounts his weekly thrashing in "Guilty Gear."

Blanche gives Tom a half smile as she makes the finishing touches to her latest batch of scones. "And you just let him walk up to you?"

"No! I threw everything I had at him to keep him off of me!"

Blanches chuckles, bringing the tea tray over to the small table in the center of the kitchen.

"It would seem dear Kaiser might have a bit too much time on his hands."

"Tsk. You can say that again… either way, tell me about this new blend of tea you've discovered." Tom replies, pulling himself a chair.

"I—" Blanche suddenly pauses mid sentence, a look of mild concern slowly creeping across her face.

"Tom, dear, I'm afraid I must trouble you with a bit of an… odd request. In all of my years hosting travelers in my library, there have only been a handful of occurrences in which I've been unable to properly greet a guest."

Tom raises an eyebrow as he reaches for his teacup, giving a slight nod as if saying "what's the matter?"

Blanche stares down into her teacup. "Just now, we appear to have received a few new visitors in the archives. Unfortunately, I'm finding myself unusually struggling to place them. I'm quite positive they're human, but they don't have any other… information I can recognize. Would you be so kind as to invite them in? I'd feel terrible if I were to host our guests without a proper cup of tea at the ready."

Tom sighs, setting down his teacup. He supposed refreshments would have to wait for the time being. "Of course. Wouldn't want to keep anyone waiting, would we?"

Blanche smiles at him as the door into the Cygnus Archives swings open. "I'm once again ever grateful for your flexibility. Do try not to scare them off this time."

"I can't even remember the last time Blanche had a guest she couldn't at least somewhat recognize. This rubs me the wrong way." Tom thinks to himself as he makes his way through the rows of bookshelves that line 906. "Nevertheless, if it were someone potentially dangerous, I doubt she'd have let them in anyway. Still…"

He rounds another corner, seeing two figures down by the end of this set of shelves. Bingo.

"Just looks like two regular wanderers to me. I'm probably overr— wait, is that SPEC?"

Tom sprints down the aisle, confirming his suspicion as the full scene comes quickly into view. Spec is half-lying on the other person—someone whom Tom doesn't recognize. What catches his attention even more is the side of Spec's face—it's cracked in the same way a porcelain mask would, the red spiderweb lines spreading out across his skin like shattering glass. Tom skids to a stop in front of the two, pausing to catch his breath.

"Hi. Welcome to the Cygnus Archives. What the [BEEP] happened here?"
