You can get to the room at random, and it's very dangerous. That being said, it's presumed that most people who enter Level 0 die anyway, because they have no experience navigating the Backrooms.
Instead of having some methods to avoid getting into this room, I would just say that it's not common to come across it.
]]>Instead, the canon explanation is that we can see these three facts:
These suggest that entering the Red Rooms is a random, but rare occurrence.
]]>maybe some people marked it more than once. many people probably didn't mark it at all. but it shows around 74 people before her died here.
]]>But you have to understand that this is a sub-level of Level 0. I think because of that it really should drastically resemble Level 0. It's the sort of thing that, if it was written today from the get-go, would be a phenomenon page instead.
Although I would likely include even more if I wrote this today, the page does include more description than "Level 0 but red," as I wanted to show a stark contrast with the rest of its parent level. That's why I described the carpet like this:
The carpet is coarse and sticky, contrasting with the slick moist carpet of Level 0, and harboring colonies of mushrooms and black mold in dark corners.
I was trying to say "this carpet is soaked in blood and shit" in so many words. I couldn't over-describe, or the idea that this is a place where people are stranded and reconnaissance is hampered would be somewhat lost.
By the way, the idea of walking randomly and entering a dangerous place unknowingly is a major tenant of the Backrooms as a whole, so if you're not a fan of that idea I don't know what to tell you.
The level is scary in an original and unique way. Sure, it's inescapable — which I think is scary in Level 0 in particular where a seasoned wanderer would definitely know how to noclip out of — but the actual horrifying part is supposed to be that it is so different from the rest of Level 0 in structure, and breaks Level 0's monotony. That's why I chose a character who takes comfort in monotony, because she would be the most impacted. But anyone used to Level 0 in any way would find a sudden shift in hue and smell disorienting. Usually, in Level 0, you're sure never to run into the same place twice, but in the Red Rooms, you get a sense you're trapped in a confined space all of a sudden while still looking like Level 0. That's where the horror is supposed to be. You've fallen into a pit and can't get out, everything you thought you had adapted before is now useless in the face of what's happened. All you can think is "If only I'd never turned that corner," but then again, how could you have known?
The story is coherent. It's pretty simple — honestly, if I wrote it now I would have included more details to characterize our protagonist and make us fit even better into her experience in the level. The simplicity means that there aren't really any contradictions or plot holes. It's coherent at the very least.
I can probably find you worse entries, but honestly if this is the worst entry that you've read that makes me pretty happy because you must not be having such a bad time reading pages here.
By the way, the idea of someone going into Level 0 to calm oneself down is supposed to make you think this character is sort of quirky and weird. In the real world, people find solace in all kinds of places that make others uncomfortable, for example people who hang out in abandoned places in real life. Level 0 is a pretty safe level if you already know how to no-clip, there are few dangers. It's a Survival Difficulty Class 0. Lastly, if it was going to mentally break her, it would likely have done that the first time she entered, and she would not have lived to be a wanderer.
]]>Maybe it's better to make the entrance more predictable such as "You will see some red hue in a direction, and you'll enter Red Rooms when walking to it"
]]>Is my theory.
Something that supports my little theory is this:
“There was no doubt in her mind that she knew what it stood for, and it shook her.”
you can't no-clip out, you'd loop back into it at the point opposite from where you clipped out! it's an infinitely looping small space.
]]>i wasn't being serious, i don't really mind that he didn't like it
(also thank you for the +1)
]]>5x4g霍霍民分不够来霍霍主站是吧🤣Bad from 5x4g😂
]]>indeed back when i first read old level 42 it sorta inspired me in that sense, to try make something that made me feel the same way that page did. it wasn't, like, that good (and i think the whole… lava pit… thing,, kinda ruins the vibe) but it made me consider how good the concept of a backrooms dead end is.
]]>Like, leaving the Backrooms aside for a moment, it's just, so sad… Actually makes one think about life for a solid second. How horrible must it be to end up like this, to the point where one just stops caring at all. One just… keeps going, and going, and going, until they just, don't. …Until the mind just blacks out, slowly, surely, and silently… Alone…
This page right here is what convinced me that the old level 42 rewrite is something that is still possible. Expect seeing that from me at some point, I don't think i'll nail it this good tbh… But for now, I just can say, thank you and Egglord for this page. +1.
]]>Congrats on the Broogli coverage of "Red Rooms!" You deserve it!
]]>there is not that much horror to this place, other than the fact that you could end up there without knowing. if there was a designated exit and people knew not to go in it, this page would be terrible.
in my opinion, it barely makes level 0 more dangerous, level 0 is easy to be stuck in forever anyway. but you can take that up with the author of level 0, because level 0 was written when the original version of this page was up.
also i think 5e is only really used on fandom but i might be wrong
]]>god imagine the smell, nearly as bad as carpeted bathrooms
]]>cool level btw
]]>I always thought of you as a codesmith, not a wordsmith.
Saw you as making "pretties" on my screen, not in my mind.
You have taught this old dog a new trick.
For that, I reward you with a +1 treat.
]]>it is i, actually making an authorpost
this page is relatively short, i guess. I didn’t want to waffle on too long about the description, i think i put in enough detail that we all know what the place is about
thanks so much to egglord, my partner in crime, for crit and the render i used for the images!
i always liked the idea of the red rooms. the backrooms is scary because you never know when some random thing will come along and halt your progress. it’s viscerally scary in a way i dig.
